GREEN BAY – Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is prepared to respond quickly and safely as a significant winter storm pushes through Wisconsin this weekend. Winds topping 40 miles per hour and more than a foot of snow are expected across much of northeast and north-central Wisconsin by Monday night.
The latest — Weekend winter storm
- Winter storm warnings have been issued for all WPS customers beginning Saturday night. Whiteout and blizzard conditions are possible.
- Heavy snow is forecast to fall starting Saturday night and continuing into Monday. A range of 8 to 20 inches of snow is possible across northeast and north-central Wisconsin, with the potential for some locations to receive more than 2 feet by Monday night.
- Wind gusts may reach up to 45 miles per hour.
- Hazardous and potentially life-threatening travel conditions are expected.
What customers should expect
- Outages are likely. The combination of strong winds and the weight of the expected snow may bring down trees and branches onto power lines, creating power outages.
- Restoration takes time. All available crews will be ready to respond to any power outages as soon as it is safe. However, in some areas, restoration may be delayed due to snow-covered roads.
- Safety first: If you have natural gas appliance that vent outside of your home, keep the vent pipes clear of snow and ice. Keep natural gas and electric meters clear of snow and ice for safety and accessibility.
- Give crews space: Snow may prevent WPS crews from parking on the side of the road when responding to outages. If you must travel, watch out for utility trucks, plows and emergency responders and give them room.
