TOWNSEND – A special prayer service held on May 7, 2026, for the National Day of Prayer brought together more than 60 people at the Townsend Town Hall for an evening of patriotism, music, and shared faith. Community members gathered to reflect, pray for the nation, and join together in a public expression of unity and hope.

During the service, American Legion Post 44 Commander George Richard presented the colors and led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Forest Larger Parish Presbyterian Church Praise Band, led by Mary Ellen Keller, also performed and added a musical element to the event. Prayers for the country were offered by leaders and members of several local congregations, including Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, non-denominational, and Catholic churches.

The gathering served as an opportunity for the community to raise its collective voice and ask for God’s blessings on the nation. For those who were unable to attend this year’s service, organizers encouraged residents to watch for the event again in May 2027.
