TOWNSEND – A group of local paddling enthusiasts will gather Thursday, August 27, for an evening outing on Reservoir Pond in Townsend. The group will launch at 5:00 pm and is led by Dick Kendall, informally known as the group’s “Paddle-Commander.”
The paddling group welcomes men and women of a variety of ages and experience levels. Participants take to the water in an assortment of watercraft, including kayaks and canoes. Some members use stand-up paddle boards, while another brings a craft equipped for fishing. The group typically spends about 1¼ hours on the water. After the August 27 paddling event the group is scheduled to head over to O’Neil’s Half-Way Bar for food, beverages and conversation.
To reach the Reservoir Pond launch site, turn onto County Highway T from Highway 32 in Townsend and travel approximately 2.5 miles. Turn right onto Burnt Dam Road, immediately veer left and continue for about 0.3 miles. Turn right onto Valley View Road and travel 0.1 mile, then turn left onto Water Street and continue approximately 0.1 mile to the boat landing.
The outings offer area paddlers an opportunity to enjoy time on the water while meeting others who share an interest in outdoor recreation.
