LAKEWOOD – Sam Saeger, President of DarkSky Wisconsin, will be giving a talk at the Lakes Country Public Library on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

Understanding Light Pollution
Light pollution is caused by excessive and poorly directed artificial lighting that brightens the night sky unnecessarily. This phenomenon diminishes the visibility of stars, interferes with the natural patterns of wildlife, and lessens our connection to the night’s wonder. As artificial light increases, birds become disoriented, fireflies find it difficult to communicate, and entire ecosystems may become imbalanced. By taking steps to reduce light pollution, we not only protect nature but also promote human well-being and preserve our relationship with the nighttime environment.
