Safely Dispose of Unwanted Medications in Oconto County

Do you have expired or unwanted medications at home? Oconto County offers five medication drop boxes where residents can safely dispose of medications they no longer need.

Safe medication disposal helps prevent accidental poisonings, theft, and drug misuse. It also protects waterways, fish, and wildlife by keeping medications from being flushed down the toilet.

Accepted Items

Medication drop boxes accept prescription and over-the-counter medicines for people and pets from households. Accepted forms include:

  • Capsules
  • Creams
  • Inhalers
  • Liquids in their original containers
  • Non-aerosol sprays
  • Ointments
  • Pills
  • Patches
  • Vials
  • Vaping and e-cigarette devices with batteries removed

Items Not Accepted

  • Sharps, needles, and syringes
  • Illegal drugs
  • Mercury-containing items, including thermometers
  • Iodine-containing medications
  • Non-medical inhalers
  • Diabetes monitors and supplies
  • Items from businesses
  • Aerosol cans
  • Anything containing blood or bodily fluids
  • Household hazardous waste, such as paint, oil, or gas
  • Personal care products, such as shampoo, soap, or sunscreen
  • Vape or e-cigarette devices with built-in batteries that cannot be removed

Please note: Sharps, needles, and syringes are not accepted in medication drop boxes. Please use an appropriate sharps disposal location near you.
