About Joan White and Her Artwork
Joan White is known for her visionary paintings that inspire viewers to perceive nature in new and imaginative ways. She possesses a unique ability to spot shapes and images within wood grain, blending transparent oil paints on distinct wood slices to create lifelike forest scenes. While Joan often works with burl wood, she utilizes a variety of wood types, each meticulously prepared by her husband, Ken. Her creative process is extensive, often taking weeks or months to complete, and she finishes every piece with several layers of sealer.
Joan earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After graduation, she relocated to Lakewood, where she transformed a former church into her art studio. Joan’s imaginative approach has earned her a global following, with her works collected by enthusiasts around the world and featured in international publications.
Joan White’s Nicolet Studio is located at 15346 Gage St, Lakewood.
