Dog owners: Wolf injures two hunting dogs in Mountain

wi dnr wolf 640x479 1 1

On Dec. 30, 2025, USDA-Wildlife Services verified a wolf injured two hunting dogs in the town of Mountain, Oconto County.

Dog owners are reminded to exercise caution in wolf-occupied areas, especially those using their dogs to hunt. Conflicts between hunting dogs and wolves are common during the bear training and hunting season. Dogs have also been depredated while pursuing other wildlife, including foxes, coyotes, bobcats, rabbits, snowshoe hares and upland birds.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) partners with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services department to investigate reported conflicts with wolves. Interactive maps, past reports and damage payment information is available on the DNR’s website.
