Journey to the Seventh Continent through the eyes of Breanne Kanak, an accomplished Wisconsin-based artist, adventurer, and K–12 art teacher who has been inspiring students in the Northwoods since 2016. Nicolet College Theatre—Lakeside Center welcomes Kanak for a special presentation on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 6:00 pm.
In November 2024, Breanne Kanak embarked on a remarkable 10-day Lindblad Expedition in partnership with National Geographic. Her journey took her across the legendary Drake Passage during Antarctica’s late spring, offering a firsthand view of one of Earth’s most remote and awe-inspiring environments.
Before her departure, Kanak developed a library of K–5 standards-based art lessons designed to connect creativity with Antarctica’s unique landscapes, ecology, and rich history. Throughout her time on the continent, she observed extraordinary wildlife, engaged with scientists, and created a series of watercolor artworks inspired by her experiences amidst the icy wilderness.
During her engaging talk, Kanak will share captivating stories accompanied by photos and videos from her journey. She will provide valuable insights into conservation efforts, mindful eco-tourism, and the unique joys and challenges associated with teaching from one of the planet’s most isolated regions. Guests will have the opportunity to explore her artwork from the expedition, which will be displayed throughout the month leading up to the presentation in the Lakeside Center’s first floor.
Admission to this special event is free. The Lakeside Lounge Bar service, offering beverages and small bites, will open at 5:00 pm along with an opportunity to meet the artist prior to the presentation. Nicolet College is located at 5364 College Drive, Rhinelander.
