Effective January 2026, Oconto County Emergency Management officially transitioned its emergency notification system from CodeRED to RAVE Alert (Smart 911). This upgrade is part of a statewide initiative to provide faster, more reliable real-time communications for public safety and severe weather emergencies.
What You Need to Know
- System Replacement:Â The previous CodeRED platform is being decommissioned. Residents will no longer receive emergency notifications through CodeRED.
- Action Required:Â To continue receiving life-saving alerts, all residents, business owners, and visitors must register with the new RAVE Alert system.
- Free Service:Â Enrollment is free, though standard text messaging rates from your mobile provider may apply.
Why the Change?
The RAVE Alert system offers enhanced features, including:
- Statewide Integration:Â Used by 911 centers across Wisconsin for seamless coordination during major disasters.
- Precise Targeting:Â Notifications are sent based on your specific location, ensuring you only receive alerts relevant to your immediate area.
- Reliability:Â RAVE Alert delivers messages through multiple channels (SMS, voice, email) to ensure critical information reaches you even if one network is down.
