LAKEWOOD – The Christian Thrift Store announced a new Volunteer of the Quarter Program during its annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on July 18 at Waubee Lake Lodge in Lakewood, introducing a new way to honor volunteers while supporting local and charitable causes.

The program is designed to recognize the volunteers who help make the store successful and to give them a voice in where proceeds from their efforts are donated. Each quarter, one active volunteer’s name will be drawn, and that volunteer will select a qualified charity to receive a $1,000 donation.

For the program’s first recipient, the store made an exception to the drawing process in order to recognize longtime volunteer Norma Behling, who has served since the store’s inception. Behling has shared her background and talents in several areas over the years, with a primary focus on fabric, one of her passions. Store representatives described her as reliable, thorough and dedicated to her work.

Behling selected Orphan Grain Train as the charity to receive the first $1,000 donation through the program.

The Christian Thrift Store is located at 4541 N. Branch St. in Wabeno.
