TOWNSEND – The Annual Townsend Flowage Protection District’s Kids Fishing Tournament brought families, young anglers, volunteers, and community supporters together on Saturday, June 27, 2026, for a day of fishing and outdoor fun on the Townsend Flowage. This year’s tournament drew 189 kids, making it another strong showing for the long-running local event.

The tournament was held at Wendt’s Sandbar Resort, a familiar gathering place on the shoreline of the Townsend Flowage. The event gave children a chance to enjoy friendly competition, learn more about fishing, and spend time outdoors with family members and friends. Registration opened early in the morning, and young participants had until 1:00 pm to bring in their catches for weigh-in.

Throughout the day, the resort and surrounding area were filled with excitement as kids watched their lines, compared catches, and shared stories from the water. For many families, the tournament has become more than a fishing contest; it is a summer tradition that celebrates the Townsend Flowage, encourages youth involvement in the outdoors, and strengthens ties across the community.

The Townsend Flowage Protection District extended a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who attended, as well as to the sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event possible. From organizing registration to assisting with weigh-ins and supporting families throughout the day, volunteers played a key role in keeping the tournament running smoothly.

With 189 young anglers taking part, this year’s tournament highlighted the continued popularity of the annual event and the importance of community support in preserving local traditions. Organizers said the day would not be possible without the combined efforts of participants, families, sponsors, and the dedicated group of volunteers who return each year to help create a memorable experience for kids on the Townsend Flowage.
