OCONTO COUNTY – Additional prescribed burning is planned this week in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.
All operations are pending weather and outcome of initial test burns.
Monday (5/11/26)
Sleeping Bear 2 2 (11 acres) in Oconto County, Southeast boundary of the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District near the intersection of Old 64 Road (FR 2307) and Airport Road (FR 2309).
Oconto River Seed Orchard GR1/GR2/GR3 (approximately 50 acres) in Oconto County, ½ mile north-west of junction of Sauls Spring Rd and Elckhoff Rd.
Wednesday (5/13/26)
Dusty Trails 2 (64 acres) in Oconto County, located on the Southeast boundary of the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District near the intersection of Old 64 Road (FR 2307) and Trin Pine Road (FR 2107) in Oconto County.
Thursday (5/14/26)
Sleeping Bear 6 (34 acres) in Oconto County, Southeast boundary of the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District near the intersection of Old 64 Road (FR 2307) and Airport Road (FR 2309)
Sleeping Bear 10 (28 acres) in Oconto County, Southeast boundary of the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District near the intersection of Old 64 Road (FR 2307) and Airport Road (FR 2309)
Forest visitors can expect to see smoke and fire management personnel in the area throughout the week. Watch for warning signs along roads and when driving, slow down and turn on your headlights if you encounter smoke on the road.
