MOUNTAIN/GREEN BAY – The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Technical Diploma program is designed to prepare students for the challenging responsibilities of providing emergency patient care and basic life support. The curriculum adheres to the Wisconsin scope of practice, ensuring students are trained to meet state requirements. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience in administering patient care, including the safe transport of injured or ill individuals to hospital emergency departments. Upon completion, graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment as Emergency Medical Technicians.

Graduates of the EMT Technical Diploma are eligible to take the National Registry certification exams, which are required for Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WI DHS) EMT licensure. Completion of this program also allows for seamless progression into Advanced EMT and Paramedic programs. In Wisconsin, ambulance services may be volunteer-based, privately operated, fire department-affiliated, or hospital-based. This program is nationally accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for EMS Professionals, under the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Requirements for Program Entry

To enroll in the EMT program, applicants must meet several requirements:

Submit a completed EMT program application.
Pass a background check through Viewpoint.
Demonstrate physical stamina and endurance, including the ability to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance—sometimes managing weights over 125 pounds—without adverse effects on body condition.
Ensure compliance with the Wisconsin Caregiver Law, as required by NWTC.
Be at least 17 years old on the first day of class.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

Perform EMT operations efficiently and safely.
Conduct thorough assessments of patients in emergency situations.
Deliver appropriate treatments to patients according to EMT protocols.

Employment Potential

Graduates holding an Emergency Medical Technician technical diploma have the potential to secure employment as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). In Wisconsin, EMTs may work within a wide variety of ambulance service settings, including volunteer, private, fire-based, or hospital-based organizations.

Classes in Mountain

EMT 1/EMR classes at Mountain Ambulance Service run August 20 – October 2, 2026, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 5:30 to 9:20 pm.

EMT 2 classes are scheduled for October 11 – December 16, 2026, also on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 5:30 – 9:20 pm.

Orientation is required at Green Bay Campus on August 6, 2026. Additional classes will be held at the Green Bay Campus, and Crivitz. Locations are subject to change based on enrollment.
