Adopt a Christmas Tree — Tradition returns to Townsend Town Hall

Hoffmann Landscaping is generously donating 25 live Balsam fir trees to be adopted and decorated right outside the Townsend Town Hall.

Thanks to Hoffmann Landscaping, each beautiful tree comes with its root ball intact. This means after the holidays, you can take your tree home and plant it in your yard — making it a permanent, living part of your family and helping to replenish our town’s greenery from recent weather events.

How to adopt your tree

Due to last year’s overwhelming demand, sign-up is in-person at the Town Hall every Tuesday and Friday until all 25 trees are adopted.

Cost to Adopt & Plant: There is no charge to adopt a tree for decoration. However, the cost to take your tree home and make it a permanent member of your family after the holidays is $45.00. You will be asked at the time of sign-up if you wish to take your tree home.

Bringing your tree home. (The living option)

Hoffmann Landscaping is making it easy for you to plant your tree. Winter storage — If you are unable to take your tree home in January, Hoffmann Landscaping will store it for you until it’s ready to be planted in the Spring.  Planting assistance — When spring arrives, they will even come to your home, for free and dig the hole for you if you need help.

Support the ceremony

While there is no charge for the initial tree adoption, they will be gratefully accepting donations to help fund the Tree Lighting Ceremony events on November 30, 2025. Every little bit helps make the holiday season brighter.

Important dates and details

  • Decorating starts on November 18, 2025.
  • Tree Lighting Ceremony is Saturday, November 30,2025 at 4:00 p.m. Join the Town of Townsend for the official lighting.
  • Fan Favorite Contest is November 30, 2025. Voting will take place at the Tree Lighting Ceremony.
  • Decorations must be removed by January 11, 2026. Please ensure all your decorations are cleared by this date.
Signage and power

Signs: If you adopted a tree last year, the Town has your sign. If you are a new adopter and want a sign with your name or group’s name, please bring your own sign to place by your tree when you decorate it.

Power: Extension cords to the building will be provided, but they will not be plugged in until the time of the Tree Lighting Ceremony.
